Samsung shows off 40-inch LED backlit LCD at IFA

September 5th, 2006

We do love us some LED backlighting, and Samsung has the goods at IFA this year. Their new LE40M91 LCD measures a reasonable 40-inches, runs at a 720p resolution, and manages an easy to love 10,000:1 contrast ratio. The display also features 450 nits of brightness, and a 146% color gamut. Best of all are the rumors that this display could be going for a mere $3,000 when it’s released, and the dual HDMI ports don’t hurt none either. The display is accompanied by a pair of non-LED LCDs, but they aren’t too shabby all the same. Measuring 40 and 46-inches respectively, the LE40F7 and LE46F7 manage 1080p resolutions, 6000:1 contrast ratios, 127% color gamut and 450 nits of brightness, along with all the same connectivity of their LED cousin. Since this is all going down at IFA, Samsung is just announcing these displays for European markets right now, but our hopes are definitely for eminent and wallet-friendly Stateside releases.

Download movies for your iPod

Unlimited iPod movies!

Just a little tip, in case you didn’t know…if you have a video iPod you can connect it to your TV (as long as your TV has the ability to receive video input) and watch any movies you download to your iPod.  *

So, you’re not just limited to watching movies on the iPod…how cool is that?  I found a place that you can download almost anything you could possibly want to watch, and it’s inexpensive….right now they’re running a special…only $36 for unlimited, lifetime access!

Click here to check it out!

*If you need more info on how to do this, just leave me a comment and I’ll see if I can get you a tutorial.

GlobalSat TR-101 GPS phone for easily misplaced children

June 20th, 2006

Thanks GlobalSat, we we’re starting to think the worrying-parent market was drying up a bit. After that first wave of GPS kiddie phones hit, the feature set has been slowly sinking into the everyphone, which doesn’t allow for that special self-importance that comes to a child owner of a stripped-down tracking phone. The TR-101 allows for calls to 3 preset numbers, and sends location data via SMS or over the Internet. It uses a full-on SiRF Star III chipset, and can be remote controlled via other phones or through Online software. There’s also an SOS button for emergencies, Google Earth integration for visualisation, and quad-band GSM support to keep track of the little bugger all over the globe. No word on price or availability.

Sprint Samsung A900 “Blade”

June 14th, 2006

I have this phone and I absolutely love it! Unfortunately, like pretty much every other cell phone on the market today it does have it’s quirks, but luckily the good outweighs the bad with this one. If you’re in the market for a "blade" the things I think you should know are:

  • The bluetooth capabilities of this phone pretty much suck when it comes to headsets. I tested 3 different bluetooth headsets before settling on the Motorola H700. It does work the best, but I still can’t get very far away from my phone or else I get a bunch of static. Transferring files via bluetooth however worked flawlessly for me.
  • The battery life isn’t great.  Especially if you use bluetooth, java apps or surf the net. I recommend having a charger at work and in your car just in case. The iGo charger is awesome because you can use it for more than one device.

Other than that, I have to say it’s a sleek, lightweight phone with tons of features and I wouldn’t trade it for anything on the market today. Right now I believe you can get it free after rebate, see the info below:

Samsung MM-A900 "Blade"Samsung MM-A900 (Sprint)

The Samsung MM-A900 (aka "Blade") is an ultra-thin flip style cell phone. The A900 has great features such as Bluetooth megapixel camera speakerphone and an internal antenna. It also includes EV-DO high-speed data a QVGA display and streaming video. The Samsung MM-A900 is the perfect blend of fashion and function. Additonal features include: Slim and sexy design Full color displays Bluetooth-enabled Sprint TV Enabled Included Accessories Lithium ion battery Compact wall charger Earbud headset USB data cable

iPod Mini - Don’t forget about me!

June 14th, 2006

With the iPod Nano and iPod video out, the earlier iPods are often overlooked. Take for instance the iPod Mini. It can hold up to 6GB of songs, is in a small, compact package and even comes in different colors…so there’s still some cool factor to it.

Even though it has a monochrome screen and of course doesn’t show videos, it still is a great MP3 player. There are also still a lot of accessories available for the Mini, and since it’s no longer being manufactured you can usually pick them up a lot cheaper than those for the Nano.

Ebay is probably your best bet for an iPod Mini, but the Apple Store often has refurbished models too. (Refurbished iPod mini - 6 GB Blue)  Either way, you get a great MP3 player with up to 6 times the space you’ll get on the new Nano.

I give the iPod Mini -
